Welcome to her crib
Today was another step in the *realness* factor of all of this…
the crib arrived!
It’s going to be so fun to look into the nursery and actually see it as a nursery… instead of just a loft with our old couch in there + books and bags of baby clothes.
Now that the crib is in there, I can start to work on putting everything else together. Usually I’d wait since we’re supposed to have a couple of months until the little one makes her debut, but from now until that time is going to blitz by. We have the Pilot’s birthday, my birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, baby. Lots going on!
Here’s what I’m thinking for the nursery plan:
[It will most likely change when everything is in there- it’s a smaller space, but a perfect nursery since it’s attached to the master bedroom]
As far as decor goes, we’re using the colors in the bedding that we ordered a while ago.
Here are some of the ideas I have for the nursery:
The hanging letters are going to go above the crib with ribbon –I’ll def post a pic of the finished product- and the mirror will go above the couch. I’m going to keep the room pretty simple, since she’ll move into her big-girl room after that. The salt lamp from our bedroom will become a nursery fixture, so I won’t have to turn on the lights fully when she wakes up during the night.
Now if only I could find this kind of decorating motivation with our own bedroom….

Watching Tom put the crib together made my heart swoon in a serious way. There are a lot of romantic and chivalrous things that men can do to win us over, but I have to say that there is no feeling like watching a soon-to-be-dad put together the furniture that his little girl will sleep in.
It also made me feel extremely nostalgic since I remember my own crib from when I was a baby. It’s weird because I guess a lot of people don’t have memories of when they were very young, especially when they were babies. I remember quite a bit of it, in vivid detail. My first airplane flight when I was 11 months old –it was storming and my mom had me wrapped in a yellow blanket, and the first time I crawled out of my crib on my own are two that really stick out to me – and at the time, I couldn’t really talk yet.
My mom had all of these funny little toys attached to the sides of the crib –I loved the button I would press down and it would chime like a bell- and I decided to try climbing out of the crib. I made it and walked into the kitchen, where my mom was making oatmeal and watching “I Love Lucy.” Needless to say, she was so surprised to see me out of my crib.
I wonder if we’ll have another escape artist in the family….

You’re not the only one who has vivid young-child memories… I was 14 months old and went to CA with my parents for a cousin’s bar mitzvah. They took me to the ocean for the first time, I was wearing green corduroy pants and a shirt with a patchwork duck on it. I remember the water being salty…

I too have a memory from when I was in my crib. My mom was going through some health problems after I was born, thyroid issues. She would be so exhausted after putting me to bed that she would just curl up on the floor of the nursery and sleep even though her room was right next door. I remember standing in my crib and looking down at her. I remember feeling so comforted that she was staying in the room and hoping she wouldn’t leave. The memory is so vivid I can still remember the design on the pillow she was using as she slept and that I was wearing footsie pajamas. It’s CRAZY the things we remember.
BTW, love the colors you are using for the nursery, they’re really beautiful!
Wow! That is amazing that you can remember those things! I don’t really remember much before school age… I think it is so sweet that you were swooning for Tom as he built the crib, it must really make it real, just as you said!!
I can’t believe that you can remember so much! I have almost no memories until I’m like, 5 or 6.
I really like the color scheme that you have picked out for the nursery. It’s feminine and soft, but not too cutesy. I love it!

I have memories about as far back as age 2.5 yrs. Nothing like yours, wow! That’s soooo cool.
And watching my husband put together anything is definitely not swoon-worthy. It’s worthy of finding the nearest handyman ad on Craiglist and calling it 🙂

My partner and I are getting married in December and want to start trying for a baby straight away, so I seriously have babies on the brain. I keep dreaming about babies, and last night I dreamt that I met you when your little girl was a toddler, and she was called Alice! So that’s my guess 🙂
We have been working on our nursery too, at first my husband didn’t understand since we have so much time (mid February) but I work as a event planner for a private community and starting in November have no free weekends until Christmas. Then I have this weird feeling our little man will arrive early, so are working on it every weekend, it needed a lot of work!
If you can, try and out the crib in a place were you can just peak into the room to see the crib, hsv g the crib behind the door will force you to walk all the way I to the room to soy on her
that’s a great idea- we’ll have it directly across from the doors, so i can peek in pretty easily
is the LIA a hint?! i’m still going with my original guess of claire 🙂 i love the layout. was visiting my pregnant college roommate this weekend and her nursery was similar. will be very functional and welcoming for the new little princess!

aaaah I’m so curious what the baby’s name is going to be!! I’m very intrigued bc I’m wondering if it is the same girl name I have picked out. Mine has the letters l, i, a in it also! We have no idea what we are having yet, though since it’s too soon. P.S. I love your nursery ideas – so pretty!

I can’t remember anything before I was two but I was also an escape/hiding artist! When I was 2, my mom was in the shower and I climbed up onto the couch (or a chair?) unlocked the deadbolt to the door, got back down and walked out the door. Then when I was about 3 or 4, I hid in my toy box and fell asleep, only to wake up and come out to frantic parents who had called the police and everything. Lord, my poor parents! 😉
What a chic nursery it is going to be! I’m loving the colors you picked out! I can’t wait to see you guys decided to name her! I tired to keep our baby’s name a secret but it only lasted about a week until I slipped up!

I remember climbing out of my crib when I was 2 or 3. I remember thinking it was a BIIIIG jump and then doing it anyway.
I outgrew some of that dare-devilishness.
Seeing the picture of the Pilot putting together those drawers brings back memories of the funny, frustrating time I had putting those bad boys together. That was definitely the hardest part about putting that crib together! I suppose it didn’t help that our energetic lab puppy kept stealing all of my tools! Hahaha! Can’t wait until you unveil the name of your little fitnessista!! 🙂
I don’t know how old I was, but I remember waking up one night, grabbing my diaper bag, and walking to my parents room to have them change me. I wasn’t in a crib, so I must have been a toddler. I fully remember being in our farm house and walking down the hall with my moonlight streaming in.
I remember you saying that the name started with a vowel. I was thinking Amelia, but I guess the “I” and “A” being the same color rules that out 🙂
My only space planning advice would be to remember how huge gliders are. By the time you factor in the size of the piece of furniture and ottoman, plus having to pull it out far enough that you can rock and recline without smacking the wall, it takes up about twice the amount of space that you think it will. Putting it on an angle in the corner makes it a little bit less of an obstruction. That’s what we did anyway. You’ll figure it all out when you get it in there.

Amelia keeps coming into my head as well, even though i don’t really think that’s it. but also i sort of think that gina posting the “LIA” in that order today throws that guess out the window.. too easy/obvious, don’t you think??

ALSO! the letters are painted now.. and my guess is that they are painted every other letter a different color, so then LIA can’t be in that order… =)

I have lots of memories as a baby, too. But one time, when I was meant to spend some time in one of those little toddler swimming pools (no, there was no water, but a cozy blanket and my fav toys), so my mum could do some cooking (I never wanted to leave her side), but I decided the pool wouldn´t stop me from being with my mum, so I just climbed over it. My mum got several shots of me getting over the boarder and it´s hilarious! My mum couldn´t believe I climbed out of there on my own 😀 Needless to say, I was allowed in the kitchen, haha.
How fun! I loved going into her future room every.single.day and thinking “I can’t wait to finally meet you!”
I know you mentioned putting her name above the crib, but I just wanted to share that “they” recommend to not place anything that is hanging or could fall above the crib. Not sure who “they” are, but I read it somewhere when we were planning our nursery decor. Thought I’d share 🙂
It took me a good 4 hours to put that crib together myself (at 35 weeks pregnant, still can’t believe I did that). Michael came home from work and it was so typical of me….it got delivered and I couldn’t wait. Once Munchkin and I got the boxes open there was no stopping me!
It felt good though! And I love it….so will you! Those drawers hold SO many baby clothes and the little shelves on the side are great for storing extra wipies and all the bath stuff, lotion, tooshie cream, etc!
I saw another commenter said about all the other furniture. I made a chart like you did but things take up more room than by how much you measure them. So def take that into consideration.
Agghhhh so exciting! Getting the nurser ready, all the furniture coming together…it’s like almost here! At the end of my pregnancy I would just sit in my glider, looking at my crib and all Ella’s little baby clothes for a couple hours.
That’s insane about your earliest memory! Quite impressive! I have little flashes of memories from playing when I was under 3 with my cousins. My most vivid memories are from around the time my father passed away I was about 4 years old…but nothing too distinct earlier than that.
I have memories from when I was very little too! My friends all think I’m crazy when I bring them up though! The crib is ADORABLE! And I love, love, love the colors! Too cute!! (:

Just an FYI, crib bumpers are not recommended. All that should be in the crib to make it a safe sleep environment is a firm mattress and a fitted crib sheet. No bumpers, soft bedding or loose blankets. Sorry, I work in pediatric health education and had to comment when I saw the crib bedding package. Congratulations!

Ahh, I love that you have memories from that young age. I think my earliest is 2-3? Also, I’m a huge advocate of “sophisticated” rooms for babies instead of the (typically fugly) pastel overload, or cringe-inducing cartoon characters. I adore what ya’ll have chosen.

I have many memories when I was a baby/kid. I once flew down the stairs in the laundry basket thinking it would be a fun “roller coaster” ride and crashed into the closet! I also remember waking up and my mom coming in with the biggest smile on her face when I was probably almost a year old. Pretty sure I also tried to get out of the crib, but failed and tumbled out of it and hit my head on the ground!
Hahaha, oh the things kids just love to try and how they can fail miserably.
I am looking at cribs and I am loving yours and actually found it online at Babys R Us. I was wondering if you would recommend the crib or if there was anything you didn’t like about it. It is a huge purchase, so I want to make sure.
