From this to that

Thank you so much for all of the sweet comments on the belly slideshow– it will be a fun thing to look back on.

It’s amazing that the belly went from this:

week2

to THIS:

40 weeks

and mad props to lululemon for stretching with me along the way.

Yesterday was my original due date. I asked the midwife to extend it by a few days because my cycle is longer, and I was glad she was totally cool with it. I was really worried about being set up for induction before I’d need to, but it looks like that could end up being an option anyway if little baby doesn’t decide to come out in the next week. I have a midwife appointment tomorrow, which I’m a little anxious about because we’ll figure out a plan and it will be my first time getting checked for progress. I heard it’s uncomfortable/not fun, so I can’t really say I’m stoked about it.

Today was my second day of acupuncture in a row to encourage the little lady along. The brilliant thing about acupuncture is that it won’t work if the baby isn’t ready, but has many benefits besides the ability to initiate labor, like stress reduction, balancing the body’s systems, etc. When I went yesterday, I didn’t feel extremely confident about it because I couldn’t focus or relax. The baby was moving and kicking like crazy, but I was distracted the entire time by the bra that was cutting off my circulation. Nothing to restrict energy flow like a bra that could break at any second. I was wearing athletic clothes, and had grabbed a sports bra out of the drawer to wear. I looked at it and thought “I think it might be too small” and then wore it anyway. During my treatment, I debated asking the acupuncturist to bring me a pair of scissors so I could cut said bra down the middle… but that would be weird.

For today’s appointment, I could relax a lot more, and feel like even if it doesn’t get the ball rolling, I feel really good, refreshed and relaxed.

I also don’t feel like going anywhere in public, but have to for sanity purposes- if I stay in the house right now, I think I’ll go crazy. But when I venture out, I think it’s obvious that I’m about to pop because everyone keeps asking me. Yesterday, the optical tech at Costco asked if I was “feeling preggy today.” Feeling preggy? What does that even mean? I just said “Haha, yeah” and punched him in the face in my mind.

In other news:

-My pump came. I tested it out on my thigh (and on Tom’s belly) and it was intense! I do like the tote bag it came with and can definitely see how it will come in handy. Thank you so much for your pump tips, too <3

-I’ve gotten really good at picking things up with my toes. I’m like a monkey.

-I’ve been checking out my nose every morning. Apparently –it’s a wives’ tale- your nose will appear wider the day you go into labor. It’s a common question in our house to ask how my nose is looking today.

-Also, word on the street is that a full moon can induce labor. Full moon this weekend……

<3

I’m thinking happy labor starting thoughts for you and that your appointment goes great tomorrow! Your little girl will be here before you know it, I am SO excited for you and Tom and the exciting things you have awaiting you!!

Hoping on that full moon!! Maybe tomorrow things will gently start to pickle… And by Saturday ka-bam. Besides, 7 is an awesome number!

Love the transformation from beginning of pregnancy to now. Isn’t it crazy how much our bodies can change in just 10 months?! No worries about being late…I was 12 days late with my daughter who’s now 8 months old. I did accupuncture towards the end too and I think that’s what helped get her out. Best of luck to you! ( :

  5. krista on January 5, 2012 at 10:15 pm

youre so close!! baby any day, how exciting!!
My first son was almost 2 weeks late and on his due date I decided to go shoe shopping! I was super hormonal crabby, rolling around with my huge belly trying on the most ridiculous stiletto boots youve ever seen. My husband actually asked if I really liked the boots so of course I had to buy them and have never worn them!!! crazy what hormones and stubborness will make you do!
Good luck to you, cant wait to hear all about new baby!!!

  6. Avery on January 5, 2012 at 10:41 pm

Yup! i think this weekend is it! That’s my bet, anyway! : ) Your bra story makes my LOL. I don’t think a gal has to be pregnant to understand the torture of choosing that one bra in the drawer and regreting it later. We’ve all been there and I feel for ya! : )

  7. Sylvia on January 5, 2012 at 11:09 pm

haHA! The bra story, the monkey toes and the pump on Mr. Fitnessisto’s belly all made me crack up.

You’re almost there chica! I’m thinking happy labor thoughts for you for the weekend 😀

  8. Lisa O on January 5, 2012 at 11:27 pm

Pee hee chuckling at the monkey comment, relating to this! Are you still going to post your birth plan (we have changed ours to “birth preferences” rather than plan) or did I miss it? At my appointment earlier this week, the lovely midwife said after feeling around for her position and doing her heart rate “she seems really happy in there” and hearing such simple words brought tears to my eyes. I bet your little lady is feeling really happy in there too. Big bumpy hug to you both xx

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:54 am

that is so sweet, and reading that made my heart smile 🙂
we still haven’t taken the time to write ours out, so it looks like we may not have one after all. if we get the chance to, i’ll definitely post it

  9. Laura @ She Eats Well on January 5, 2012 at 11:32 pm

You look amazing. Period. Very inspirational!

  10. Sabrina on January 5, 2012 at 11:59 pm

First – you look fabulous! Second, don’t fear being induced too much. I too think little miss will come in the next few days, but in case she doesn’t, I was induced with my second and it was actually really great – the contractions were much easier to handle than natural labor with my first kiddo (I had mainly heard not good things about induction, but seriously, it completely rocked for me). Hang in there – you’re so close and she’s is going to be such a cutie!

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:53 am

thank you, that’s good to hear! i’ve heard that being induced can be extremely painful, so it’s nice to know that it isn’t always the case

  11. Stephanie @ afitbliss.com on January 6, 2012 at 12:53 am

You look amazing! Full moon + all our positive thoughts and energy = labor right?! 🙂

Secondly, did you make it through your entire pregnancy without buying maternity clothes?? Big props to you!!!

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:52 am

      i hope so!
i bought maternity jeans and tops, but athletic clothes-wise, i just kept wearing the same stuff. thank goodness for stretchy fabric 😉

  12. Lauren @ Sassy Molassy on January 6, 2012 at 12:59 am

Thinking good thoughts for you and a happy labor ahead. You’ve been doing great the entire pregnancy. Just gotta get through this last leg! 🙂

  13. Jessica on January 6, 2012 at 1:19 am

“I just said “Haha, yeah” and punched him in the face in my mind.”

This made me laugh so hard… mostly because I work in retail and I swear, customers say things EVERYDAY day that make me have to awkwardly laugh or smile and then berate them in my mind. You rock 🙂

  14. Jamie @ Food in Real Life on January 6, 2012 at 8:33 am

This post made me LOL because I relate to so many of the things you said. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve wanted to cut my bra in half- I actually wanted to cut a pair of pants in half the other day but encouraged myself not to because I want to use them again for my next pregnancy. I’ve also punched so many people in the face in my mind…including a woman who constantly refers to my baby as “my little friend”. She always says, “Hi, you and your friend”… it’s not offensive but for some reason drives me into rage mode! Yay pregnancy! 🙂 Hang in there Gina, you’re almost there!

  15. Megan on January 6, 2012 at 8:56 am

Full Moon! Yes that might really work in your favor- That is no wives tale, it was totally true when I worked in labor and delivery! Barometric pressure is nothing to mess around with 😉

  16. kari on January 6, 2012 at 9:04 am

WOW! Gina, you look so beautiful and can’t wait to see the baby.

  17. Shanna @ The Truth about Chasing your Dreams on January 6, 2012 at 9:08 am

You are so pregnant! It’s true, your nose gets super wide….I didn’t notice it until I saw pics of me later. I’ve been thinking about you, sending good vibes your way!! LOVE YOU Friend!

  18. Carolyn on January 6, 2012 at 9:19 am

You look amazing!! I wish you a fast and easy delivery. My daughter was born in January the weekend of a full moon, so reading your post made me think of a lot of those happy memories again:) It was very busy at the hospital when she was born too, so I definitely think there is truth to the full moon link to labor.

I didn’t have a chance to go back and read all the pumping tips, but I wanted to recommend picking up gel pads to wear in between breastfeeding sessions. Ameda, Medela and Lasinoh all make their own versions and you can store them in the refrigerator between uses. They’re a little expensive considering they only last about 6 days, but I found them to be worth the money since they’re only necessary in the beginning. Even with my second baby, breastfeeding for me was painful at first and these gel pads gave me so much relief. Good luck!

    • mary on January 6, 2012 at 4:22 pm

Those sound amazing. Cold cabbage leaves are recommended, too!

  19. Ali on January 6, 2012 at 9:38 am

Oh man, I hope the little lady is ready soon! Sending you love and ease. <3

  20. Karen W on January 6, 2012 at 9:41 am

That is funny, I didn’t realize you and my sister had the same due date. Her little boy seems to be just chillin’ out too and in no big hurry to arrive 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:50 am

that’s definitely like our baby! she seems like she’s totally happy in there, no desire to come out

  21. Lynann on January 6, 2012 at 9:53 am

If you are looking for ways to natually induce labor. Your new pump is the best method going. Midwives actually suggest this now in hospitals instead of pitocin. It makes your uterus contract and then if the baby is ready it will kick start natural contactions and they will keep going. Just a thought if you are looking to avoid induction. I love your blog by the way.

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:49 am

thank you, lynann! i’ll ask about that at today’s appointment

  22. Chelsa on January 6, 2012 at 10:24 am

You stayed so fit, it’s amazing. You’re basically the same size everywhere except your belly! I hope she comes soon and that’s too funny about picking things up with your toes.

  23. Kari McLennan on January 6, 2012 at 10:28 am

wooooo no posts yet today…..could it be? Could my guess of January 6th really COME TRUE??!!!! Soooo excited for the 3 of you 🙂

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:49 am

nahhh i’m still here, going crazy waiting! 🙂
i’ll definitely put a post up when we’re headed to the hospital

  24. LisaG on January 6, 2012 at 10:34 am

Saying prayers for you. You still are so pretty and healthy looking.

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:48 am

thank you, friend! miss you and hope you and the kiddos are all doing well <3 xoxo

  25. Georgia on January 6, 2012 at 10:38 am

The fun thing about having a baby is that HUNDREDS of other people are excited for you! I woke up this morning and it’s all I can think about. I’m sure loads of people are blurking in the hopes of news soon. For me it was a little annoying/ the coolest thing in the world. I was teaching senior English at the end of my pregnancy and the kids were WAY into it.

Just letting you know we’re all into it! 😉

    • Fitnessista on January 6, 2012 at 10:48 am

      awww! thank you 🙂

  26. Natalie Rae on January 6, 2012 at 10:46 am

I am really excited for you!

Totally understand the bra thing… every night I feel like my ribs are being cut into, AND THEN she kicks as I am trying to go to sleep- more than during the day… figures 🙂

I look forward to learning from your birth experience mom

  27. julie on January 6, 2012 at 11:05 am

is that the same shirt? holy moly!

  28. Amanda Lee on January 6, 2012 at 12:08 pm

So Close! I’ll finally learn the baby’s name…! I avoided the picture of the receipt for the surprise 🙂
Seriously though it looks like you just stuffed a beach ball under your shirt. If you hadn’t posted pictures along the way.. we’d all think you were messing with us! You look gorgeous! Keep up the baby brewing she’ll be here before you know it!

  29. mary on January 6, 2012 at 4:20 pm

Are all your Lululemon clothes stretched into permanent maternity shape now? I can’t believe you wore them this long.

  30. Megan Infantino on January 6, 2012 at 4:56 pm

How’d the appointment go???? Any word?
